A Florida man shoots four of his relatives after Thanksgiving dinner?Disgusting but maybe we can all relate just a bit? I don’t know what it is about the holidays but they do bring out the worst in some people. Think about Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation and how his mother in law berated and insulted him. And thankfully most of us are rational human beings and we would never react physically or harm anyone but lets face it we have all wanted to choke some family members at one holiday or another. Where are the Hallmark moments I wonder. Do those Osmand Christmas gatherings really exist or is Donny and Marie screaming across the buffet table. Is it the triptophan in the turkey that makes us sleepy or maybe it triggers something worse than tired ness. Could this be a defense for this man in Florida? Snide comments, insults, or back handed compliments are slipped across the dinner table. What happened in that Florida dining room? What could his sisters have said to him to make him go get a gun? And I can be sarcastic about this and laugh because of my own crazy, dysfunctional extended family. I have my redneck roots and there has never been a holiday where someone hasn’t stormed off on a huff or gotten drunk and said too much. So as we kick off the countdown to Christmas, one thing I know for sure, with all the joy comes a lot of aggravation. We can’t choose our family. The best we can do, or the best I can do is try to keep a sense of humor about it. And remember that any one of these crazy people in my life would be there for me no matter what, and there for my children. So remember your uncle who just drives you nuts and think about the times he showed up to plow your driveway. And your cousin who says something stupid at every event is always there for you. Sometimes just showing up is worth a million bucks isn’t it? A lot of people are alone in this life. So I’ll take my wacko family. At least I always have something to talk about. Them!
