Is GOD punishing the people of Haiti? Is this earthquake his wrath? Are we seeing destruction of Biblical or prophetic proportions? After the earthquake Evangelist Pat Robertson said the people of Haiti are being punished by GOD because they made a pact with the devil to free them from the French.
As a Christian woman I found this very offensive.
Cancer, famine, genocide, rape, and what else could be damnation? Are these all punishments?
Right now in America 1 out of 4 children is living below the poverty level. We are suffering a double digit unemployment rate and as far as I can see there is no hope for new jobs because they have all been sent to China and India.
Are we, the greedy Americans too being punished by GOD Mr Robertson? And why are the Chinese being rewarded for their years of communism, murder against girl babies, and enslavement of children in factories to make our clothes and toys?
There is injustice around the world. People suffer everyday. Nature is unpredictable. To allow words such as Pat Robertson’s to go unquestioned is just irresponsible.
I am Christian. And I do believe GOD can be vengeful. I do believe your sins will catch up with you. But what are the sins of the people of Haiti who live in an impoverished nation? What are the sins of the babies who died this week? What are the sins of hard working people just trying to make a living?
I think Robertson should be talking about compassion. At this time in our lives more than any other we are in crisis. There are men training in terrorist camps. There are little girls being sold into prostitution all around the world. There are babies going to bed hungry in every nation. Celebrities order $10,000 bottles of cognac while food shelters are empty. Michigan is still broke and California is a failed state. Bankers get million dollar bonuses while they foreclose on hard working families.
There is a lot of heartache and fear. I opt for hope and giving. If each one of us reached out and lifted one person up imagine the world we could create.
Let the devastation in Haiti inspire our souls to do something big with our time. GOD is great. People are good. Together we can fight, save, create, and inspire.
God help us all!

Terrible but God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah as well. Haiti stands for voodoo, devil worship, human and animal sacrifices, witch craft! The Christian part of the island has been spared. We Christians ought to help those poor people.

Well Said. God is Love are the first words in my Bible. What God does
Pat Robertson believe in. Also what about Judge not lest ye be judged! You are so right that we live in difficult times which makes it so important to be caring and compassionate and try to see the best in every situation.
I pray that God sends his Angels to comfort the people in Haiti and rescue them as quickly as possible.

In the interest of accuracy I think you need to source your quote. I have read the transcript of the quote that initially got people so fired up. He did not say that Haiti was being punished by God. He said they made a pact with the devil and have been suffering ever since. He did not say God caused their suffering. I am not a Pat Robertson fan. I don’t necessarily think he chooses his words wisely. And i apologize if you do have a quote where he says Haiti was punished by God, but I know the quote that is being widely reported in the media does not state that.
However it concerns me that Christians are taking his words out of context and slandering him by saying he said God was punishing Haiti. He could have easily and more likely meant that the history of devotion to devil worship has caused them to suffer. Just as a drug addicts devotion to drugs causes them to suffer.
Also if you read the entire quote he goes on to say how the people of haiti need our help, and that his organization is commited to helping with the relief efforts.
