Each year less people send out Christmas cards. I have at least five girlfriends who have already told me they have no time to send out cards. I have a few others who told me they just are tired of the whole card thing. And the other day one friend told me “what is the point of sending cards when we have Facebook.” Women are posting pics of their babies every day and sharing every detail of their lives on Facebook, so what is left to say in a Christmas card? Plus this friend told me she is just sick of mailing cards to people who don’t reciprocate. We all feel that way. And why? You know Christmas is coming for 365 days. You have all year to take a picture, put a card together and mail it out. Really, it’s laziness. It may be that sending cards is pretty expensive with the stamps, photos and cards you could easily spend 100 bucks. If that is the case, in this dead economy, I get it. So maybe the future is the emailed card. But it just makes me sad. We continue to lose or ignore some of the best holiday traditions we grew up with. I am still trying to hold on to the old fashioned Christmas. I will be mailing out cards. And I hope I get a lot of cards back.
