To all of you beautiful women who work so hard every day caring and nurturing your babies, I applaud you. I just saw a piece on CBS news Sunday morning about how many couples are “opting out of parenting.” And on this mother’s day they chose to do that story, along with interviewing women on how they don’t want babies. How lovely. Whatever. Instead of focusing on the parents who don’t want kids I want to spotlight those of us who did or hope to. Children are expensive. They take and take. They will tell you they hate you. They will cause you a lot of emotional agony and worry. But that is life. These are the moments that are few. How about the hugs, and the laughter, and the beautiful moments together. The couple who is now a family. The holidays. The birthdays. Having children is a gift. Being a mother is the job of a lifetime. Once you sign up, you are in 24/7 with no guarantees. You give it your all and hope for the best. You won’t get paid , but it is the most important job there is and it should be highly regarded. And for those of us who try our best to be the best mothers we can be, the rewards are priceless. So happy Mother’s Day to us!
