And so we can all hunker down and cuddle up. I love putting on a fire and getting cozy on the couch with the hubby, the kids, and a great movie. And I love fall. The orange, red, and yellow leaves on the tree and the bulky sweaters and boots on me. Invite your friends and create a harvest afternoon. A big pot of chilly simmering on the stove with all the fixings for your guests to self serve along with some pumpkin wine and great conversation. A football game in the piled leaves with some hot apple cider, and you have a fun day. Set up your crock-pot on your porch with the hot apple cider inside with a ladle and I love to use old jelly jars for serving. For more fun hang chocolate mini donuts on yarn from your tree branches for donut bobbing. Put out a folding table filled with caramel strips, Popsicle sticks, sprinkles and apples. The children love to make candy apples and the moms love to eat them.
And what is better ladies than wearing longer sweaters this fall? We can cover our fannies and still look stylish. Paired with the very in knee high boot this season and you are a hot mama!
Look in my recipe archives for my favorite fall dishes, pork roast, chili, squash soup and pumpkin pie.
Start buying now for your Thanksgiving feast. A little each week, and watch for the sales. Sign up with your store to get your free turkey. Most grocery stores have this. If you spend a certain amount each week, you will get a free turkey.
And please remember your local food shelters and church. Please donate anything you can from old coats, to canned pumpkin. And if you can afford it, ask your church about donating a turkey. There are many families in all of our communities who are having a very hard time at it right now. Keep them in your prayers and remember them when you are shopping.
God Bless! Darla
