Trying to hold on to the traditional family

So the recent hoopla surrounding the Ann Romney/Hilary Rosen saga was less about the ‘mommy wars’ and more about the traditional family. Over the past ten years we have seen a severe and radical change in what we accept, and what we consider appropriate in America. When it comes to families, the old fashioned mom/dad, kids and the white picket fence is slowly fading into yester-year. While divorce has become the norm and staying married has become the unusual, those holding on to their families has almost become a joke. How disgusting and sad is it that today people mock women who want to be married and stay happy. How sad is it that the thought of staying in the same marriage, with the same lover, for twenty years is now suddenly shocking and absurd. To be in a gay marriage, or to have a baby while unmarried, seems fashionable and ‘modern.’ God help the 21 year old girl who wants to be a mom, a wife, and raise her family. If she were a party girl, sleeping around, making money and working her way up the ladder, she would be applauded. Something is seriously wrong in our thinking. I think society shouted back over the stay at home mom drama because there is a big part of society, me included, who knows it is good, it is right, and we need now more than ever for moms to be back home. The family is falling apart. Tradition and family values are crumbling. We are becoming an empty society full of material wants and gross expectations. The hard working family with mom budgeting and getting by, the old fashioned way, is not saluted and not applauded. And while the economy is in the pits, and it gets harder for families to hold on, it is the family that stays together who should be commended. We should do everything possible to support the family. And this is where the feminists have dropped the ball. They should be working non stop for longer maternity leave and force tax breaks for moms who are home.
